GateHouse Media Inc., one of the nation's largest community newspaper and website publishers, is for the second year promoting breast cancer awareness in its communities in October with its Paint it all Pink campaign.

GateHouse newspapers are partnering with chapters of cancer-awareness agencies in their communities, such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the American Cancer Society, to provide awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. A percentage of all advertising purchased for this campaign will be donated to a local organization.

The campaign includes print and online presences: Most papers are doing a special section in October featuring local survivor stories and news to know about cancer; all websites' wrappers will become pink during October; and some papers are printing on pink newsprint for an edition during the month.

GateHouse Media Director of Sales Training and Development Rebecca CappareliI says, "This is an important cause. We all know someone or will know someone that breast cancer will affect. Together, we will raise awareness and funds to support education, early detection and treatment of breast cancer in our communities. We really want to make a difference for our readers, for our families and for our charities."

For its 2011 breast cancer awareness efforts, GateHouse Media New England and Wicked Local were honored with the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Media Partner Promise Award Aug. 8. The group was recognized for its leadership and service in the community at the first Volunteer & Donor Appreciation Event for those helping fight breast cancer.

According to a press release, "GateHouse Media New England started the Paint it all Pink program in 2009 and celebrated its third anniversary this past October. During the Paint it all Pink campaign, the company’s biggest campaign, it turns its more than 100 newspapers and websites pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Readers and supporters can find content dedicated to breast health, contests promoting corporate partners who support the fight against breast cancer, and a digital footprint dedicated to all things breast health."

The campaign was taken companywide in 2011.

GateHouse Media owns more than 400 community publications and related websites in the US and reaches approximately 10 million people weekly.
