GateHouse Media wins Second Street Award for best overall promotion

Second Street, a leading provider of private-label online promotions platforms for media companies, announced that GateHouse Media, Inc. was selected as the winner in the Second Street Awards for best overall promotion.


Second Street, a leading provider of private-label online promotions platforms for media companies, announced that GateHouse Media, Inc. was selected as the winner in the Second Street Awards for best overall promotion.

GateHouse Mediaa national media company with more than 75 daily newspapers throughout the United States – was recognized for facilitating a year-long promotions program across its publications in 2012. The program resulted in more than $3 million in contesting revenue and grew the company’s email database by more than 45 percent. In addition to that, the State Journal-Register, a GateHouse paper in Springfield, Illinois, was awarded “Best Sports Contest” for their Pro Football contest in which they generated $100,000 in sponsorship revenue.

“GateHouse Media made a meaningful impact in markets across the country by coordinating a highly organized promotions program that hundreds of thousands of readers enjoyed participating in,” said Matt Coen, president and co-founder, Second Street. “By showcasing GateHouse’s remarkable strategy, we hope that other media groups will see how they can implement an integrated promotions program across their properties to achieve higher audience engagement and generate more revenue.”

For the past four years, the Second Street Awards have recognized the year’s best media promotions campaigns in the categories of contesting and deals. The awards cover more than 20 topics including the best photo and video contest, best Facebook contest, best restaurant and recreation deal and best deals store. Second Street also recognizes the media outlets with the overall promotions performance covering small, mid-sized and large market properties.

“The integrated approach of this promotions program was so successful because our corporate team works in harmony with our individual properties, allowing us to engage with more readers,” said Rebecca Capparelli, Director of Sales Training and Development, GateHouse Media, Inc. “We have very exciting plans in the works for 2013 that we hope will be even more successful and give us the opportunity to be back at the Second Street Awards this year.”

Second Street showcased the finalists and winners during a webinar held in December 2012. Participants were encouraged to live tweet using the hashtag #secondstreet.
