Staff Accountant/Financial Analyst

GateHouse Media, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant/Financial Analyst

GateHouse Media Suburban Newspapers, a division of GateHouse Media, Inc. (NYSE:GHS), is an award-winning, fast-growing community newspaper publishing company located in the western suburbs of Chicago. We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and hard-working finance professional to join our team. This position reports directly to our VP of Finance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

• Drive the month-end closing process. Prepare journal entries, reconcile and analyze accounts, maintain supporting schedules and documentation. Compile, review and analyze monthly financial statements.
• Present complete and timely financial and accounting information to corporate executives.
• Prepare monthly analyses in accordance with our SOX requirements.
• Develop an understanding of our sales/advertising CRM software. Extract data and create the necessary reporting requested by various department heads.
• Oversee billing and cash receipt processes.
• Assist with the annual planning and budgeting cycle.
• Assist in financial audits – both internal and external.
• Provide a financial statement analysis as required or requested.
• Prepare, review and revise accounting policies and procedures as necessary to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Assist with payroll functions when necessary.
• Maintain accounting and financial reports and documentation.
• Perform special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance. CPA preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years experience preparing and analyzing financial statements and budgets; strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Strong PC skills a must (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with and knowledge of an accounting software package preferred (Great Plains). Knowledge of CRM packages a plus.
• Understanding of financial responsibility and need for confidentiality.
• Must be detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational and communications skills.
