GateHouse news, sales divisions team up to create 2012 portfolio

Posted: Feb 08, 2012

GateHouse Media newspapers nationwide are producing a portfolio of targeted special sections this year to increase sales success.

The company’s News & Interactive and Sales & Marketing divisions coordinated on the section lineup, basing the choices on past market success, level of reader engagement and major ad revenue categories for media in the current economic climate.

"Our goal in Sales & Marketing is to give the consumer and advertiser a comprehensive multimedia experience with all of our products," says Bradley Harmon, vice president of GateHouse Media Sales & Marketing. "The products selected translate very well in both print and online to engage the consumers' and advertisers' interest."

Topics are:
-- Real estate
-- Salute to Nurses
-- Breast cancer awareness (branded Paint it all Pink)
-- College prep
-- Local Readers’ Choice guides
-- 2013 auto preview

Sections, sales collateral and house/web ads will be created by GateHouse News Service, and sales training will be provided companywide for each product.

"Coordinated training has been crucial to helping our markets see the flexibility of our sections and content," says Lisa Glowinski, director of GateHouse News Service. "It's important for both advertising and editorial staffs to know the content and sales potential of these products."

In 2011, almost 100 GateHouse newspapers ran a Salute to Nurses section, about 200 ran a Paint it all Pink section, and about 150 ran a 2012 Auto Preview section, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue for our community publications.

"We're excited about how these categories will continue to evolve and grow as we continue to publish them each year," says Harmon.

Also this year, GateHouse News Service is creating monthly Election 2012 pages and products for the Summer Olympics, for GH newspapers and GHNS clients to use as needed.
