Richard King has been named GateHouse Media's Vice President of Consumer Marketing and will lead the company's efforts to fully leverage and maximize growing prospects for bringing content to consumers across many new platforms, while optimizing pricing strategies.
King brings a strong and diversified media background. In addition to building a successful marketing consultancy, King most recently worked for Audible.Com, a division of Amazon. As Audible’s VP of Marketing and Business Development, King played key roles in developing their subscriber acquisition campaigns, brand advertising, and content promotions. Among other accomplishments at Audible, he oversaw the launch of Audiblekids.com, - a digital audiobook site for parents and kids, and also developed many co-branded partnerships that were promoted across many different media platforms.
"As we look to grow consumer revenues, it was clear that our ability to provide more consistent and progressive services on behalf of all of our properties would best be accomplished through a small, but highly skilled and well-equipped consumer marketing staff," GateHouse President and COO Kirk Davis said in a statement. "Rick will lead these efforts companywide."
Prior to joining Audible, King spent 17 years with Showtime Networks in New York, where he held vice president roles in Marketing and Partnerships and Direct Marketing and Promotions. He successfully drove subscriber growth, brand awareness and “tune-in” engagement through a variety of direct marketing campaigns and partnerships that delivered value and scale. He initially joined Showtime in 1988 as a senior financial analyst having spent the previous year in corporate finance with Drexel Burnham Lambert. He received his BA in History from Haverford College, and earned his MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
