On Dec. 29, GateHouse Media partnered with Secondstreet Media to launch our first companywide Cutest Baby Contest. This partnership was focused on building audience for our advertisers and delivering readers a promotion with a high level of consumer engagement.
In each of our markets, parents and grandparents of babies were asked to submit the cutest pictures of their children younger than 24 months. All babies are featured in print and online galleries this month and, in each market, prizes will be awarded to the baby selected by our readers as the cutest.
This contest has proved wildly popular, with nearly 800 babies entered (update Jan. 31: 2,250 babies have been entered), and more than 800,000 votes (update Jan. 31: 3.2 million votes). Additionally, consumers are sharing the contest with their friends and family across social media platforms urging them to place their votes: In just the first three days of voting, our 2012 Cutest Baby Contest delivered more than 2.4 million page views (update Jan. 31: 5.7 million page views).
Sponsors of the 2012 Cutest Baby Contest received multimedia campaigns in print and online and capitalized on the incredible traffic of this promotion. The combination of print and online marketing has made this our most successful promotion to date.
