Jim Porter has been named the general manager of GateHouse Ohio, effective immediately.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Publisher Chris White, who served in that capacity before his recent promotion.
“Jim is a strong leader on our team and in our community,” White said. “From his time in circulation, he understands what our readers expect and the internal processes required to get the news delivered every day. He has played a key role in our most successful initiatives the past five years, including our digital products.
“I’m proud to have Jim in this expanded role and look forward to leveraging his talents across our organization.
Porter, 47, has been with The Repository for 25 years. He will continue serving as vice president of circulation of GateHouse Ohio, a post he has held for five years.
“I am looking forward to my additional responsibilities,” Porter said. “These are exciting times at The Repository and GateHouse Media. Under Chris White’s leadership and with the efforts of our terrific management team, we expect to continue moving forward in our evolving industry.
“We have a solid work force with employees who care. That will ensure our futuresuccess.”
Porter began his career at The Repository in 1987 as a circulation district sales manager. He then became the circulation zone manager in 1991 and sales and marketing manager in 1996.
Three years later, he became the director of circulation for The Repository/Copley Ohio Newspapers, overseeing all aspects of the circulation and distribution departments for Copley Ohio Newspapers including sales and marketing, budgeting, revenue, expenses, collections, home delivery, Newspapers In Education and single copy sales.
Porter was named to Presstime Magazine’s 20 under 40 in 2001. That same year, The Repository won the International Newspaper Marketing Association Award for outstanding marketing results.
Porter resides in Jackson Township with his wife, Sarah, and four daughters.
