Jonathan Schuler has been named the director of GateHouse Media's Design House in Framingham, Mass.
He will be responsible for the editing and design of all of GateHouse's non daily newspapers that will be produced in the Design House.
"I have personally worked with Jon for several years and believe his experience running non daily newspapers and his content development skills will be a huge asset for the newspapers being produced by the Design House and our Design House staff members," said David Arkin, Vice President of Content & Audience for GateHouse Media.
Schuler, who has been with GateHouse Media since 2007, most recently served as executive editor of Suburban Life Publications, a group of more than 22 weekly newspapers and 65 community-based websites in the western Chicago suburbs. He was responsible for the group's editorial direction across all print, digital and mobile platforms. He also served in various leadership positions at Suburban Life Publications including managing editor, where he oversaw the newsroom's day-to-day operation. He managed the news, sports, entertainment and opinions sections, as well as the design and photography teams.
Under his leadership, Suburban Life Publications was awarded Newspaper of the Year from the Illinois Press Association four years in a row (2009-2012), Newspaper of the Year from GateHouse Media in 2009 and 2012, and Newspaper of the Year from Suburban Newspapers of America in 2009.
He was previously a city editor for The Capitaldaily newspaper in Annapolis, Md., an editor for The Journal Newspapers in Alexandria, Va., and a copy editor for a business-to-business media company.
He will start on Jan. 7 and will relocate with his family to the Boston area at that time.
