GateHouse Media LLC seeks an experienced, energetic and engaging leader who wants to become part of an exciting, vibrant community of information technology professionals supporting our mission. Our information technology environment is highly distributed and diverse, with strong leadership and coordination from Chief Information Officer (CIO) and direct reports.

We are seeking a strong, knowledgeable leader to provide input to our vision, strategy and broad-based planning in addition to hands-on operational responsibility as the VP, Information Security (VPIS). The VPIS reports to the CIO, is a member of the CIO leadership team and serves a key role in a high-visibility area of our business. The VPIS is an advocate for GateHouse Media’s total information security needs and is responsible for supporting the development of a comprehensive information security strategy to optimize the security posture of the organization – and operationally delivering it as well as maintaining information security related regulatory compliance. The VPIS leads the development and implementation of a security program that leverages enterprise-wide resources, defines and facilitates information security governance, advises the CIO on security direction and resource investments, and helps design appropriate policies to manage information security risk. The complexity of this position requires a leadership approach that is engaging, imaginative and collaborative, with a sophisticated ability to work with other leaders to set the best balance between security investments and other priorities of our business.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of one relevant professional certification- (CISSP, MCSD, GIAC, or CEH preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or the equivalent work experience is required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Information security certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent preferred. Information systems auditing certification such as CISA or GISA is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of six years of prior work experience in information security is required.
  • Must have experience with common information security management frameworks.
  • Track record of planning and executing complex work efforts.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, analysis, and writing skills.
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to work effectively with business unit managers and information technology and information technology operations staff and the ability to lead in a matrix environment is required.

Congratulations to the team at The (Stockton) Record, which recently received a total of 25 awards at the California Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2015 Better Newspaper Contest.

Alex Breitler received five honors, including first place in Business Reporting category and second in the Writing category and earned honorable mentions in Sports Game Story, Environmental Reporting and Agriculture Reporting.

Mike Klocke received two awards, including first place in Column Writing and second place in Editorial Writing.

Lori Gilbert won first place in Profile Feature Story and an honorable mention in Writing.

The Record’s sports department received three second-place awards, including Special Section, Thomas Lawrence’s Sports Game Story award and Kelly Jones’ Sports Feature Story award. The team received honorable mentions in Best Overall Sports Section, for Bob Highfill’s Sports Feature and for Lawrence for Sports Game Story.

Michael Fitzgerald earned second place in Column Writing and Clifford Oto earned second place in Artistic Photo.

The Record earned honorable mention in General Excellence, and other honorable mentions went to Reed Fujii for Agricultural Reporting, Joe Goldeen for Enterprise Reporting, Kevin Hecteman in Video Journalism and Elizabeth Roberts for Profile Feature Story.

Other honorable mention awards included Arts and Entertainment coverage for TimeOut sections, Special Section and Best Front Page and Layout and Design.

The Tracy Press earned first place for Sports Action Photo and second place for Special Section. The Lodi News-Sentinel received second place in News Photo.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s Michael Braga Wins Pulitzer Prize

Congratulations to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s Michael Braga, who won a Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting for his investigative piece “Insane. Invisible. In Danger,” a multi-part investigation of the consequences of the state of Florida’s budget cuts on mental hospitals.

Braga was honored alongside Tampa Bay Times reporters Anthony Cormier, formerly of the Herald-Tribune, and Leonora LaPeter Anton.

“I’ve thrashed around my whole career trying to get to bigger papers in bigger cities, but it turns out I was in the right place all along,” said Braga. “I’ve been able to work on fascinating and far-reaching stories, and I’ve been surrounded by extraordinarily talented and driven journalists and patient editors who tolerated my eccentricities and were willing to dole out dozens of second chances.”

This marks the second Pulitzer Prize for the Herald-Tribune and the second time Braga has been a finalist for the honor.
